A Trump Speech on Trade (if he understood it)
So basically like Reagan but with a sophomoric slant
If only . . .
“My fellow AMERICAN citizens. I come to you with a message for the future: America is back!—in every way. It is getting better and it is going to be beautiful. And one of those ways we are fixing it is trade. We are going to make American trade great again.
Eight years ago I embarked on a mission. To show the world what an economic powerhouse we could be. And when I left office one thing was clear: There’s no other country on Earth that trades like the United States. No other. And yet under the destructive policies of corrupt Biden and Kamala, that position of strength was negotiated away. They just gave it away. Well, NO MORE!
Today we are ending that surrender and fighting back! We will no longer yield to the desires of foreign countries—foes and friends alike (not so friendly is it to expect your partner to accept a bad deal). I’m a great friend. And I’m a friend to the American people.
I make great deals. Clinton and Obama had backed us into a corner with NAFTA. So I ended it. I renegotiated it to make it work for US! So we now have the USMCA, but we aren’t done yet. Not even close.
We are going to make it even better. No longer will American consumers have to suffer at the shopping mall, the hardware store, or even the grocery store. Soon and forever, under my guidance, we will break down these barriers, bring down prices, and open up all the options we deserve. You really do deserve it. And I’m going to give it to you.
I hate taxes. Tariffs are taxes that powerful, left-wing special interests like to burden American families with. That ends now! No longer will we let big corporate interests overrule our national interests. Starting now we are ending all tariff taxes.
I am cutting these taxes more than any president in history.
The companies complain, ‘The other countries won’t let me compete. They subsidize the foreign companies and sell for less than I can.’ Sounds like an excuse. I ask them, ‘Why aren’t you as good at what you do as they are?’ They can’t answer because they aren’t used to competing. They are demanding handouts and welfare from us. They’re welfare queens. They really are. Sad.
American industry was once the grandest of them all. Reagan knew it. He embraced it. But Democrats have worked against American industry. They don’t think we can compete, but we can compete better and stronger than the rest of the world combined.
If foreign countries want to tax their citizens to give us cheap goods, I say, ‘Let them’. Biden didn’t like getting more for the American people. Biden, the worst President ever, told China to stop giving us stuff. He wanted you to pay more. He made bad deals. He wanted Mexico and Canada to do less work for us. I want them to do more.
When they sell us stuff, we get their stuff. And they get . . . the U.S. dollar—best currency in the history of the world. Then they have to buy stuff from us giving us a profit. Or they have to invest in the greatest country in the world, the United States of American, making it even greater. That investment drives American jobs, innovation, and wealth. Making us even richer. Now that’s a good deal—my kind of deal.
The left is afraid, and they want you to be afraid. They don’t think we can compete. Biden wanted U.S. manufacturing to hide from competition. Kind of like he was always hiding. Didn’t see much of him, did you. Makes you wonder what he was doing all that time. He was giving up. He didn’t believe in you, and the people around him didn’t believe in you. I believe in you!
They want us to surrender. I want us to win!
We were winning four years ago. People would come up to me, tears in their eyes, and they’d say they’ve never had it so good. They were rich. They had everything they wanted. And the best stuff. They could buy it because they were making so much.
American companies were competing. They were doing great. But Biden gave all that away. He put regulations on them to make them stop doing so good. He gave them money, so much money, given away to cronies to get them to do stuff Biden and the far left wanted them to do. He wanted us to DEI everything. He broke American companies.
And then when the prices went up and the things we wanted to buy were harder to find, he did his favorite thing—he put tariff taxes on them. Any time people found a great deal, he killed that deal with Democrat tariffs. This protectionism is weak and it is retreat. I don’t retreat. I FIGHT! I WIN! And America wins!
Some folks want to bring back the old jobs. I ask, ‘Why would you do that?’ It makes no sense. We have these big, beautiful machines to do the work. We can make China and Mexico and even Canada do the work. They work for us.
They want us to look backward; we look forward. We lead. We win.
Through these tax cuts and our deregulation, that’s a beautiful word when you think about it . . . maybe the best word, deregulation. Through the tax cuts and deregulation we are freeing American industry to compete and freeing you to be rich. This is how we win. This is how we MAKE AMERICAN TRADE GREAT AGAIN!
Thank you, and may God bless the United States of America.”
