Hope Falls Eternal
Awakening from summer's slumber
Fans rise to autumn's call.
As bustling and hustling build,
The devoted rejoice, "Football!"
Call it obsession.
Call it devotion.
Label it loyalty.
A love of pageantry
The draw endures.
A clean slate and new start
For the team at one's heart.
One's calendar finds structure.
Priority is preset lock.
The countdown is on
As kickoff starts the clock.
Just as teams will battle,
Relationships take the test.
Love is jealous and so unfair.
Football widows and widowers
Must grapple with the affair.
Blind to their fixation
Those who don't know soon find out,
And believers fear the same.
Winning the tailgate means little
If the team or family extinguish flame.
No time for such doubt
So certain is their hope.
Despite certainty of future despair,
They all proclaim: "This season is our year!"Discussion about this post
